A General Power of Attorney is a document used to nominate and appoint a person to act as your agent to take care of all your affairs. It is often used in the instance where one person requires another to manager his/her affairs because he/she is abroad or are unable to attend to his/her own affairs for some other reason.

The person appointed as your agent will be entitled to manage and transact all your business and other affairs, including suing on your behalf, buying and selling assets on your behalf, operating your bank accounts, managing your business affairs and signing any documents on your behalf you.

When granting a General Power of Attorney, it is imperative that you appoint someone that you can trust, who will not abuse the wide powers granted.
